Long-Established History

Located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Agra is one of the most eminent tourists Place in India . The city of the 'TAJ' was established in 1475 by King Badal Singh. Agra also finds mention in the Mahabharata (ancient Indian spiritual text) as Agraban. This city in those days was considered to be the sister city of Mathura which was then more well-known than Agraban

Agra is not only famous as eminent tourist place for the TAJ but it's also a shopper's paradise too. There are plenty of shopping centres and shopping malls where one can buy specialties of the place. Agra is famous for the Taj Mahal made out of marble. Agra is also famous for leather made items. The local Artisans are good at making leather chappals (sandals), purses, bags, decorative items and many more leather products which instantaneously attract your attention. In the handicraft emporiums and shops there are sandal and rose wood items even though there are no rose or sandal wood forests nearby.

Taj Mahal - Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan in the memory of his beautiful wife Mumtaz Mahal. Taj Mahal was the culmination point of Indo-Persian architecture.

Agra Red Fort - Principally, it was built as a military establishment by Akbar in 1665. The red sandstone Agra Fort was partially converted into a palace during Shah Jahan's rule.

Apart from the Taj Mahal & the Agra Fort , Agra has many other excursion sights, places and monuments worth for viewing.

The Mathura-Vrindavan - this region forms an important pilgrimage place for Hindus as it is closely associated with the birth and childhood of Lord Krishna, an important deity in the Hindu religious pantheon.

Fatehpur Sikri - presents another marvel of the Mughal architecture and splendour. A trip to Agra remains incomplete if one doesn't visit these places of interest surrounding it.

Itmad-Ud.Daulah's Tomb- This tomb belongs to father of Nur Jahan - Ghaias-ud-din Beg. He was the Wajir or the Chief Minister of Emperor Jehangir .

Chini-Ka-Rauaza - A tomb of glazed tiles is a memorial dedicated to poet-scholar and later the Prime Minister of Shah Jahan, Allama Afzel Khal Mullah Shukrullah of Shiraz .

Jama Masjid - Built by Shah Jahan in 1648, the main gate of this mosque has inscriptions written on it and was built by Jahanara Begum. She was the favorite daughter of Shah Jahan and was imprisoned with him. The absence of minarets and the shape of the dome give it a distinguished character.

Mariyam Tomb - This tomb is dedicated to the wife of Akbar. The red sand stone tomb was built in 1611 and is on the Delhi - Agra highway. The carvings on the tomb of Mariyam-us-Zamani are worth viewing.
