The Ranthambhore National Park stretches across an area of 1,334 sq km on the eastern edge of the Thar Desert . Once the hunting grounds of the erstwhile ruling family of Jaipur, today it is one of the last sanctuaries of the big cat, the Royal Bengal Tiger. Ranthambhore actually consist of not one, but three, wildlife pReservees: the Ranthambhore National Park itself, the Sawai Mansingh Sanctuary and the Keladevi Sanctuary. Ranthambhore is an oasis of dense dry deciduous forests amidst a vast tract of semi arid scrub and thorny desert vegetation surrounded by the hills of the Vindhyas and the Aravalis

Mammals : There are about 25 tigers and 40 leopards in the Reserve. These are supported by a large population of healthy herbivores. Tigers can be spotted quite often in their natural habitat even during daytime. They have been frequently seen at the edges of three lakes-Padam Talab, Raj Bagh Talab and Milak Talab. Ranthambore also has large numbers of sambar, chital and nilgai. Sounders of boar and an occasional gazelle the chinkara can be seen.

Birds Life : Though this park is famous for its animals, it is rich in birdlife as well. Bonelli's eagle, creasted serpent eagle, great Indian horned, owl, gray partridge, painted partridge, sangrouse, quail, spur fowl, common pea fowl, tree pie, paradise flycatcher, pheasant taled jacana, painted stork black stork, white necked stork and spoonbill and also green pigeon.

Reptiles : Monitor Lizards and the Crocodiles.
